Digital violence is real violence.
#NoHayExcusa para el abuso en línea
Gender-based violence remains one of the most widespread and pervasive human rights violations in the world. It is estimated that, globally, Almost one in three women have been victims of physical and/or sexual violence at least once in their life. And what's even worse, Every ten minutes, a woman or girl is killed by her partner or another family member.
This is a scourge that has intensified in various settings, but this year the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women campaign focuses on one in particular: the digital realm. Violence against women on online platforms is, today, a serious and rapidly escalating threat that aims to silence the voices of many women, especially those with a high public and digital presence in fields such as politics, activism, and journalism.
It is a growing form of violence due to weak technology regulation, a lack of legal recognition of this type of aggression in some countries, the impunity of platforms, new and rapid forms of abuse using AI, movements against gender equality, the anonymity of aggressors, and the limited support for digital victims. STOP THE VIOLENCE!
